Rye Brook Police Join Coalition To End Gun Violence, Rye Daily Voice, 3/15/2014

RYE BROOK, N.Y. — The Rye Brook Police Department has joined an effort to encourage gun manufacturers to play a part in reducing gun violence.

The effort is spearheaded by Metro Industrial Areas Foundation and its local affiliate, Westchester United, a network of churches, synagogues and other faith-based community organizations who work together to generate social change. The groups are working to form coalitions of communities to begin conversations with gun manufacturers about safer gun distribution practices and ways to reduce gun violence.

Anti-gun violence group visits Bloomfield, NorthJersey.com 3/24/14

Representatives of Do Not Stand Idly By discussed American gun violence on Tuesday at Bloomfield’s Law Enforcement Building.  The Metro IAF campaign shared its efforts with elected officials, police, religious leaders, fellow gun-safety advocates, as well as concerned citizens.

“As a former staffer for Senator Lautenberg, this issue is very near and dear to me,” Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia said. “We’re not trying to take guns away. We don’t want our police facing more powerful weapons than they have.”

Many in attendance expressed the sentiment that now is the time for action.
